All systems shipped since July 18, 2012 already have this firmware loaded at the factory.
Releases a new feature where currently supported 2D and 3D 720p content is up-scaled to fill the 1080p display. Only top-and-bottom 3D formats are currently supported in this release.
Includes Update 1.01 which is a bug fix to remove the persisting faint gray vertical line.
WARNING:
Do not upgrade if your system was shipped AFTER July 18, 2012.
During the update process:
DO NOT turn off the power
DO NOT plug or unplug the HDMI cable
You may need to return the Controller to the factory for reprogramming if this happensduring an upgrade.
For PC users(See below for Mac users): 1. Download “Update v1.10.exe” (see the right side of this page) and put it into a folder on your PC and install the Upgrader by double clicking on “Update v1.10.exe”. The “Update v1.10.exe” file will unzip several files into a default folder called SMD-Updater. Click "OK".
Note: If you do not want to use the default folder, click "Browse" and then click "Make New Folder". Be sure to write down the folder name as you will need it later.
2. SMD-Downloader will then pop up. Connect a USB to micro-USB hose from the PC to the driver board, and power it on. The "Connected (Normal Mode)" light will turn green. If not, your PC (with Win 7) may be downloading the USB driver. Give it a moment to install. If you are using an XP machine, you may need to install the USB driver manually if you don't already have it. See below for USB driver installation instructions.
3. Click the "FPGA Downloader" tab. Click "Browse" and select the file: smd_st1080_fpga_ver_1_2b.mcs from the folder C:\SMD-Updater (or the new folder you created). After a few seconds, click "Download". You should get a "Successfully Loaded" confirmation message once the download is complete.
4. Click the "MCU Downloader" tab. Click "Boot Mode". The "Connected (Boot Mode)" square should be yellow. Click "Browse" and select the file: vsf_385_ver_1_9_usb_n.hex from the folder C:\SMD-Updater (or the new folder you created). Click "Download". You should get a "Successfully Loaded" confirmation message once the download is complete.
5.Turn the power off on your ST1080 and then back on again.
The 720p scaling supports 3D frame packed and top/bottom but not side-by-side.
