Overview
SMD is vertically integrated to ensure full control over the microdisplay backplane and driver design, microdisplay packaging, and driver firmware code. This translates to cost savings to our customers.
BACKPLANE
Microdisplay and phase modulator CMOS backplane consists of memory structures store and hold analog signals at each pixel. The stored information is flashed to the pixel electrodes simultaneously and held for the duration of the frame period while the next frame information is written to the memory cells in the background. Thus, the lighting can be timed with duty cycle to avoid or minimize the overlapping of the rise and falling edges of the liquid crystal response to achieve best grey level (color) fidelity.
Driver Board
The driver board designs are based on FPGA to allow flexibility to customize and upgrade through USB connection using our proprietary interface software.
User-Interface
Proprietary graphic user interface (GUI) software allows tuning and control of our microdisplay and phase modulator systems.
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PACKAGING
We maintain our own fully-equipped Class 100 cleanroom facility perform wafer-scale packaging to ensure highest quality and yield of the microdisplays, as well as the ability to implement customized process and materials for specialty applications.
